Privacy Policy

Summary

Browser Sentinel monitors network requests made by your browser and displays this information locally within the extension dashboard. No personal data is collected, stored beyond your session, or transmitted to our servers. All analysis happens inside your browser.

What the Extension Accesses

Network request metadata (via webRequest API)

The extension intercepts the metadata of every network request your browser makes — the destination URL, hostname, HTTP method, status code, and which tab or extension initiated the request. This data is displayed in the dashboard and held in memory only. It is never written to persistent storage and is cleared when you click "Clear Log" or close the browser.

Tab URLs and titles

The URL and title of each browser tab are captured to attribute network requests to their source page. This information is displayed in the traffic table and is never stored beyond the current session.

Installed extensions list

The list of installed Chrome extensions and their declared host_permissions is read via the chrome.management API. This data is used solely to power the Extension Auditor feature — comparing each extension's actual requests against its stated permissions.

What Gets Sent Externally

Two public lookup services are contacted to enrich server information displayed in the dashboard:

• Google Public DNS (dns.google) — destination hostnames are sent to resolve IP addresses
• ipinfo.io — resolved IP addresses are sent to retrieve hosting provider and country

Only hostnames and IP addresses of destination servers are sent — no personal data, no page content, no user identifiers.

What Is Never Collected

• No page content (text, images, form data, passwords)
• No cookies or authentication tokens
• No personal communications (email content, chat messages)
• No data sent to our own servers — there is no backend
• No persistent storage of browsing history
• No analytics or telemetry

Permissions Used

• webRequest + <all_urls> — to observe all browser network requests (observation only — no blocking or modification)
• tabs — to identify which tab initiated each request
• management — to read installed extensions and their declared permissions
• storage — reserved for user preferences; no traffic data is persisted
• notifications — to alert when an extension contacts an undeclared server
• alarms — to keep the background service worker active for continuous monitoring
